What do we mean by creative thinking?
When a poor family decides to send their child to a good university and arranges for it, that’s creative thinking.
When a professional finds some way to execute a process in lesser time – that is creative thinking.
Creative thinking simply means finding news ways / simple ways to do an old thing!.
How can we think creatively?
Here are 5 ideas from David J. Schwartz:
1. Eliminate the word ‘impossible’ from vocabulary. This word is a ‘restrictive’ thought. Now onwards, you may consider reading ‘impossible’ as ‘i m possible’
2. Respect traditions but don’t become slave of traditional thinking.Try to avoid the words ‘this is the way it is done since ages’. ‘It’s been this way for hundreds of years and that’s why must be good’. This is the way to think traditionally.
3. Become receptive to ideas. ‘won’t accept the words ‘won’t be done’, ‘can’t be done’ , it’s useless etc.
4. Be an experimental person – Experiment new ways and things. To put it simple, try to find a new route to your home or office or school or any other place.
5. Be progressive and not regressive. ‘I am doing it since I was a child’ don’t mean that there are no other ways or means now to do it in a better manner. One should progress with time and learn new technology.
If the above make sense, here are two action items suggested by David Schwartz:
1. Accept the opportunity to do more. We should accept greater responsibilities – in our work, in our community, in our business or professional lives. More responsibilities do also mean that we can are being trusted by others. We can become leaders when others trust us.
2. Concentrate to answer the question: How can I do more and How can I do better?
Above ideas are from David Schwartz book: The Magic of Thinking big.
Happy thinking!
